Washington Township Troop #95647

Madison Booth

Madison has been a member of troop 95647 since she was a Daisy and loves Girl Scouts.

For her Gold Award Project, Madison decided to leave a lasting impact by helping young girls gain access to the transformative power of sports. Inspired by her own experiences as a youth athlete and coach, she noticed a significant lack of participation from girls in her local track program.

As someone who credits sports with teaching her leadership, teamwork, and resilience, Madison wanted other girls to have those same opportunities. Her project was broken into three phases, each one addressing a root cause of the issue: limited access to equipment, low confidence, and lack of representation.

In Phase One, Madison organized and led a week-long sports and wellness workshop for young girls in her community. She led daily activities, recruited volunteers to coach, and welcomed around 15 participants each day. This experience helped her grow as a leader—she learned how to plan, delegate, and adapt in real time.

In Phase Two, she ran a community-wide sports equipment drive. She collected new and gently used gear to donate to underserved families in Paterson through her church. Workshop participants were also encouraged to donate, creating a sense of shared purpose. She promoted the drive by speaking at church services, collaborating with community leaders, and setting up collection points throughout town. In the end, hundreds of pieces of equipment were donated and distributed to children who may not have otherwise been able to play.

In the final phase Madison created a motivational video campaign featuring female athletes from high school and college. These athletes shared personal stories and encouragement for girls considering sports. The video was shared on social media, reaching thousands and helping normalize female participation in athletics.

Girl Scouts has made a lasting impact on Madison’s life. She plans to continue her education studying Business Administration at the University of Michigan.
